Curva Contínua

Material: 1 roll of industrial aluminium foil 1 x 100m.
Preparation: Before the performance, in a large empty room, built a 10 x 10 m square of aluminium foil, gluing stripes of 10m together.

Performance:
Stand outside the square, at the middle of one of the edges. Stand still until audience is silent.
Walk to the centre of the square.
Squat and, with your fingers, start ripping and rolling the foil. Start as small as the tip of you finger.
In a spiral, roll the continuous stripe foil, that will grow in width as the sphere you are building and the empty circle you leave, grow in size. The body follows the movement of the spiral, trying to keep moving in a regular rhythm.
Performance ends when you have reached the larger circle of removed foil you could.

Vera Mota

Vera Mota (1982) uses performance as a medium of production and staging. There is an operative body, evident in the shape and structure of the work, which inscribes concrete processes of materiality and construction. While granting a particular attention to the economy of the presence, there is an active body, whose agitations and transits are registered in the sculptures, drawings as in performance. This dual body interacts with materials whose properties are determinant to define the expression that the objects take up. In this sense, there is Vera Mota’s work a sculptural animism shared between the agent bodies. The politics of the body are a constant theme in the artist’s work, recently extending more consciously, from a post-human perspective to other bodies, other materialities.
