PROV(OC)A(ÇÃO) PÚBLICA

My color was erased from my birth certificate by (meta)physical floods. I was conceived in colonial rape. At home it was not black. He was too light-skinned to be black. Being black was almost an offense. It was clothed, and protected, by a white hand and soul. In the street they called me dark, mulatto, brown, mestizo, tan, brownish, copper, brown, swarthy, grayish, white, dark white, near-white. I put white powder on my face and avoided sunbathing, because, for me, there was only one way out and that was the white world. Camouflaging myself perhaps makes me reflect on the fiction of a story and its echoes of erasures.
